Scoliosis Awareness Month

Curvy June Adventures

June is Scoliosis Awareness Month. Here's a picture from this spring of me showing my curve to the Scoliosis Adventure Club (my practicum students). I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 10, wore a back brace through high school, and have been working intentionally with my curve pattern for the past few years.

In January, I began my practicum for Yoga for Scoliosis, teaching three students/friends who also have scoliosis. I hope to be certified in the next few weeks through the program directed by Elise Browning Miller.

Throughout the month, I’ll be sharing my journey, the characteristics of scoliosis, and how those of us with lateral curves can work with our uniquely expressive spines to move toward center. This journey is unfolding in real time. I have had to work through my resistance about shifting my scoliosis journey from the personal to the professional realm, so this is an evolution. I am honored to pass along what I have learned, especially knowing it will help you with your scoliosis, help those of you who teach people with scoliosis, and inspire all of us to stay engaged in a healthy way with whatever condition we face.

I'll be posting social media, so follow along if you participate on those platforms. I post mainly on Instagram. You’ll also find the posts on my personal Facebook page. If you know someone who lives with scoliosis, forward this page and invite them to join our mailing list or follow along on social media.

Look for upcoming free events around scoliosis in the coming weeks, including the one on my birthday, June 16th. This will also be a birthday party, and all are invited. There are so many things to celebrate this month! I look forward to connecting around all that twists and turns.
