Report From SoHum: Spring 2025
By Theresa Shay
The recent spring gathering in Kentucky at SoHum, TriYoga International’s program space, filled my heart, lengthened my breath, and carried my mind into stillness and quiet.
Glenn was able to join me for this trip. It’s been a year since he traveled to Kentucky for the programs with TriYoga’s founder Yogini Kaliji. I love sharing the yoga experience with him, so this alone made the Mother’s Day long weekend trip special.
Glenn has been building 151 over the past 18 months, and that project has been his yoga mat. Though Glenn wondered how much of the program he would do, he was drawn to participate in nearly every session. Kaliji’s teaching was light, calm, deep, and accessible. He even enjoyed the closing Level 2 class and flowed gently through. I love watching this practice meet every body where it is.
In addition to Glenn being part of the adventure, many of my TriYoga of Central Pennsylvania (TYCP) friends were there. Jill and Scot, two of the original TYCP students 25 years ago, finally got a chance to visit SoHum. In January they had intended to stop by for one day of the program, but Covid interrupted the plan. Just a few miles away, they had to quarantine in their camper instead of joining the sessions. The recent four days made up for winter’s missed opportunity, and I treasured sharing the Kentucky experience with my dear Pennsylvania friends.
Member Beth from North Carolina drove up, her first experience of SoHum and hopefully not the last. Carol Bhavani, a regular at SoHum, was present, and we flowed next to each other the first day. Jenny Joy, formerly of Bellefonte, now in college in Kentucky, came in for the Friday program. Julie, who has participated in many TYCP programs, drove in from Western Pennsylvania. Matanga, who goes by Matt when he is working as an acupuncturist in the State College area, served for four days straight: greeting, carrying, cleaning, setting up, taking down, garnishing food, making tea, and arranging lights and sound. TYCP Seva Squad member Bob, who lives locally to SoHum, welcomed us with his gentle spirit and warm smile.
Evening meals provided by Vegan Genie were divine creations of love. (Don’t be fooled that she calls these “snacks.”) Dr. Pai, the Sanskrit scholar visiting from Mysore, India, offered blessings and mantras. While we were flowing at SoHum, he recorded all four chapters of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras in the sister building HamSa, where TriYoga International’s recording studio lives. We will hear his voice in future presentations, no doubt.
The newly created perimeter path allowed for morning and afternoon walks around the property. Enjoy a glimpse here.
The full moon on the last day showered us with blessings of light while the amphibians sang.
These four days gave opportunity to thank Yogini Kaliji for the gift of TriYoga on the planet and offer gratitude to the Universal Mother Energy for this precious life, our profound wisdom practice, and the community where we share the enlivening experience of meeting the eternal flow. For body. For mind. For spirit.
